High school students love spirit days at school, but sometimes things go a little too far. That’s what happened at an Arizona high school that hosted Redneck Day, reports the Huffington Post’s Black Voices.

Queen Creek High School student council members planned the school-wide event with the idea that students would dress up as, and poke fun at, the cast members of the show Duck Dynasty about the family that developed a popular duck hunting call. The council’s faculty sponsor gave the event the green light. It was supposed to be funny, they said, but no one was laughing when a student showed up wearing a Confederate flag as a cape. School administrators pulled the student aside and asked him to remove the flag, but plenty were still upset. According to the Huffington Post, “District Superintendent Tom Lindsey told AZ Central that, although the student is originally from an area where the confederate flag is displayed often, “It was explained to him that, in Arizona, we look at it differently.” Lindsey also extended an apology to anyone offended by the use of “redneck.”‘

Did the school do enough?
